Proud to be part of something bigger
When you join Popcar you join a tribe of people who challenge the status quo, who are future makers and want to leave a better planet for future generations.

Every time we use a car or turn the lights on we are emitting harmful carbon emissions into the environment. That’s why we partner with local Australian carbon offset projects to compensate for unavoidable carbon emissions generated through Popcar journeys. For only $0.01 per kilometre your emissions produced will be partly negated through the purchase of carbon offsets. As a bonus, global studies have found that car share users reduce their emissions by 10%.*
One of the important projects we contribute to is The Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor plantings. Using native Australian trees and shrubs to join small patches of remnant vegetation. Besides the all-important role of sequestering carbon from the atmosphere, the trees and shrubs help to reduce salinity, water and soil erosion, and provide habitat for the endangered Carnaby’s Black-Cockatoo, Malleefowl and other threatened flora and fauna.

The lost sense of community and the ‘it takes a village’ philosophy has led to a world of independence and over consumption. But as cities become more populated, congestion worsens and cost of living increases, local communities are looking for ways to improve in the future. Car sharing benefits both the individual users and the wider community
Less Traffic
2000km – that’s the car driving distance reduced by each car share member per year on average.*
More parking spaces
85% – the percentage of time privately owned cars are parked on average**. With less cars, more parking becomes available or that parking can be put to better use. In some areas the land for parking is worth more than the car.
Reduces car ownership
10 – the number of privately owned cars reduced for every car share vehicle available. This reduces the total number of cars on the road and encourages more people to utilise public transport.
Local economy
$60,000 – is the total increased economic benefit per car share vehicle considering congestion, pollution, parking and local retailers.***

*** Walking for good health
One of the great advantages to car sharing is it supports a healthy lifestyle. When you are less reliant on a car you tend to walk, cycle or take public transport more often.
We know that just 30 minutes of exercise a day can benefit you greatly. It reduces your risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. It also strengthens your bones and can help with weight management.
Many Australians own fitness trackers trying to reach the magic number of 10,000 steps a day. When you’re an office worker reaching this number can prove challenging. Car sharers are better placed to naturally incorporate more walking into their lives.
