Car sharing is a simple and convenient way to reserve a car for a short period of time without having to worry about the costs and responsibilities of owning a car.
Here’s a quick rundown of how car sharing works at Popcar:
Sign Up and Become a Member
To use our car-sharing service, individuals need to sign up and become a member. This involves picking a suitable plan and following the prompts to join. To successfully complete the application members must confirm their email address and validate their licence within the Popcar app. Applications can take up to one business day to process. If approved, members can immediately access Popcars fleet of vehicles.
Reserve a Popcar
Once approved, members can reserve a vehicle through our web portal or mobile Popcar app. Members can choose the date, time, and location for pick-up. They can also choose to contribute to the environment and pay 1 cent per kilometre to offset carbon emissions. This can be selected at the time of booking via our Popcar app. We include insurance as a part of the usage charges for a booking. There is an excess members are liable for though if ever they are in an at fault accident. However we do have an insurance excess option which they may choose to reduce the excess to $0. It costs $1.50 per hour capped at $20 for the daily rate. Select this option at the time of booking via our Popcar app.
Pick up the Vehicle
On the day of a reservation, the member will go to the designated pick-up location and use the Popcar app or an access card (which we will post in a membership pack after application approval) to unlock the vehicle.
Use the Vehicle
Once in the vehicle, they can use it as someone would their own car. Make sure to follow all traffic rules and regulations and keep the vehicle clean and tidy. Ensure to always lock the vehicle when stopping during a journey.
Return your Popcar
When the trip is complete, return the vehicle to its designated bay according to the app. If the car has a 25% fuel level or below please refuel the vehicle, this is every user’s responsibility. If a Popcar is ever under that level, we ask our members to please report this, and a Member Consultant will follow this up with the previous user and place a penalty fee on their account. Then when the journey is complete ensure that all belongings and any rubbish is taken with the member and then lock the vehicle again via the app or access card.
Pay for the Trip
We calculate the cost of a trip based on the length of reservation and the distance traveled. Payment is immediately charged at the completion of the booking, funds must be available otherwise members may incur a penalty fee.
Overall, car sharing is a flexible and affordable way to access a vehicle for short-term use without the costs and responsibilities of owning a car. By sharing vehicles, car sharing can also help reduce traffic congestion and emissions, making it a more sustainable transportation option.
